Description: A glazed steatite scarab, with blue-green pigment remains, the body naturalistically detailed, every aspect of the anatomy is carved with precise details, the underside deeply carved with hieroglyphic inscriptions, reading “It is Amun-Re who strengthens your might against the land of the Nubians, such that the people who are in the southern region kiss the ground because of your might, O king of upper and lower Egypt, Thutmose III, beloved of Amun”. The inscription refers to Thutmose III ’s expansion of the boundaries of Egypt more than any other pharaoh, in this case southwards into Nubia.
Provenance: Ex. James Breasted Collection, by gift from him to his niece, the late Isabella Breasted.

Condition: Some breaks around the base, extremely well carved inscriptions, overall a magnificent example.
